IWASE COSFA’s New Initiative Cultivates Future Wellness Through the Power of Nature and Regional Strength
Since spring 2022, IWASE COSFA has launched a new initiative involving the cultivation of mushroom beds—including wood ear mushrooms, shiitake, and mukitake—in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture.
Mushrooms are widely recognized as natural ingredients rich in dietary fiber and vitamins, and known for their immune-supporting properties.
In collaboration with local employment support facilities in Karatsu, we cultivate these mushrooms in a nature-rich environment—surrounded by clear blue skies, pure water, and the subtle sea breeze carried through the scenic Niji-no-Matsubara pine forest.
With meticulous quality control, we are committed to delivering safe, wholesome products that customers can enjoy with confidence.

Key Features of the Karatsu Wellness Farm

Business Overview
Cultivation of White Wood Ear Mushrooms and Operation of Our Online Store
We cultivate a rare white variety of wood ear mushroom, derived from the commonly consumed black species.
Known for its plump texture and strikingly bright appearance, this mushroom is grown using Kyushu-sourced mushroom beds under strictly controlled temperature and humidity conditions in our greenhouses.
Each mushroom is carefully harvested by hand and delivered not only to local supermarkets but also to customers across Japan.
Environmental Stewardship and Community Engagement
The Farm Division practices circular agriculture by repurposing spent mushroom beds as bedding for cattle and compost for vegetables.
We also collaborate with local children's cafeterias and special-needs schools to promote regional revitalization and environmental initiatives, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Employment Support
In partnership with local employment support facilities, we provide work opportunities that foster social participation and promote inclusive growth within the community.
Additionally, we bridge agriculture and welfare at the local level, and in September 2024, we obtained certification under the Noufuku JAS, a Japanese agricultural standard that recognizes socially inclusive farming practices.
