Identifying Material Issues and Strategic Challenges

At IWASE COSFA, we define our material issues by aligning our corporate philosophy with our medium-term management strategy. Our aim is to generate new value by proactively addressing emerging challenges in society and across the supply chain.

Our Materiality Identification Process

Step 1: Mapping Social Issues

We began by identifying a comprehensive set of social issues to evaluate as potential material topics. This selection was guided not only by our Group’s CSR policy, but also by international frameworks such as the GRI Standards and ISO 26000, as well as evaluation items used by leading CSR rating organizations. From this, we identified 30 key social issues for deeper analysis.

Step 2: Stakeholder Engagement

To assess the relevance and impact of these issues, we conducted interviews and open discussions with key stakeholders, including executives, customers, suppliers, employees, local communities, and NPOs/NGOs.

Step 3: Developing the Materiality Matrix

Each of the 30 issues was assessed on two axes: importance to stakeholders and relevance to our business. Both were rated on a five-point scale. Based on the combined scores and overall significance, we prioritized 14 issues that scored 7 or above to represent the Group’s material focus areas.

Step 4: Formal Approval

The finalized list of material topics was presented to the Board of Directors and formally approved.
